Restorative Massage & Bodywork

Craniosacral Therapy + Therapeutic Bodywork

Specializing in an integrative, therapeutic approach to bodywork. Sessions combine craniosacral therapy with therapeutic bodywork to promote the health and healing of the body-mind-spirit from the inside-out. This work aims to unlock, re-pattern, and restore the body from pain resulting from stress, injury, illness, overuse, repetitive use, trauma, and emotional holding patterns.

The body and mind relax through an overload of sensory input to the central nervous system from the touch experience. The parasympathetic nervous system is engaged and mediates the body's stress response allowing it to rest. Tight and contracted muscles relax along with many other benefits including – reduced feelings of stress, tension, anxiety, and depression – deeper, fuller breathing – an enhanced energy level – and stimulation to the digestive system. The work increases the circulation of blood and lymph fluids that brings a fresh supply of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your muscles while flushing out toxins and boosting the immune system. The work relieves muscle tension and soreness, breaks-down scar tissue, reduces or eliminates knots or tight bands in the muscle tissue, increases flexibility, increases range of motion of joints, and gets you moving more freely in your body. When the body relaxes and restores, so too does the mind. As the soft tissues release and become free from pain, the mind and spirit can awaken and expand. Sessions help to restore balance to the body-mind-spirit relationship, supporting each in optimal health. The work helps bring your awareness into your body to support your healing process. Understanding the causes of pain can lead you to a greater sense of yourself. Awaken to your essence by connecting with your body.

Diane is a North Carolina licensed massage and bodywork therapist practicing full-time since graduation from the Body Therapy Institute in 2009. Diane brings to her work as a massage therapist a dedication to compassionate and skillful touch to promote the health and healing in all of her clients. She believes in a holistic approach to mind and body health and that massage and bodywork is one avenue to achieve this. She assists her clients in bringing new awareness to their own body and their own felt experience. Diane’s skilled touch is guided by hundreds of hours of continuing education and many thousands of hours of hands-on bodywork experience. Her touch is further informed by her own felt experience as a trauma survivor, struggles with autoimmune disease and multiple spinal herniations and degenerative disk disease. Her unique skillset and deep personal ‘knowingness’ connects with your body’s inner wisdom setting the stage for engaging the parasympathetic nervous system and facilitating fascial releases deep in the body. Prior to becoming a massage therapist (1992-2008), Diane worked as a research associate evaluating child and family programs in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. She has a BA from the University of Maryland in Sociology and Criminology, and a MA in Criminal Justice from SUNY-Albany. She has been a resident of Chatham County for close to 30 years. When she is not working she enjoys spending quality time with her family, time in nature, walking/hiking, working out and gardening. Therapeutic Massage Session

Therapeutic Bodywork

The therapeutic bodywork offered is a combination of medical, myofascial and neuromuscular massage. The goal of therapeutic bodywork is to break down scar tissue, reduce muscle spasms, release knots and tension, improve flexibility and increase range of motion of joints. This process restores blood flow to muscle tissue bringing oxygen and nutrients, and flushes out toxins that can help to reduce inflammation. The work is often slow and deep, within a clients comfort level, to lengthen, spread and differentiate the fascia, muscles and connective tissues.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touch, whole-body treatment technique developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM. CST is a complimentary method of hands-on bodywork that works with the body's craniosacral system to support and nourish the central nervous system. The work releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. CST helps to alleviate the aches, pains and strains of life, and improves coping mechanisms to allow for better management of stress. CST improves the body's ability to self-care and can produce profound, positive changes.

Testimonials

OrangeButterfly
"Words can't fully capture what her bodywork has done for my physical, mental and emotional well-being. A few years ago, Diane introduced me to craniosacral therapy and - in ONE session - turned a skeptic into a true believer. After years of chronic pain in my back, hips, and shoulders, her combination of CST and deep tissue massage has provided relief I honestly didn't think was possible.
I've practiced and taught yoga and meditation for over a decade, but I never truly experienced what it felt like to completely let go of the tension my body had been holding until I started with Diane. I joke with my friends and family that she is a Wizard--or maybe a Sorceress--I genuinely don't know how she does it, but every appointment feels magical. She has an incredible ability to tune in to what your body needs, and every session leaves me feeling lighter, more aligned, and profoundly restored. I walk out feeling like a completely different person than when I walked in.
If you're dealing with chronic pain, stress, or simply looking for someone with extraordinary skill and intuition, I cannot recommend Diane highly enough. She is incredible and I'm so grateful to have found her."
